• Sydni Piner - Artistic Director & Owner

    Sydni is the Artistic Director and owner of Legacy Dance Complex where she specializes in various styles of dance including Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Technique/Body Strength and Knowledge-based classes.

    Sydni has been dancing since the age of 5 and is classically trained in Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Hip Hop. She has been trained by many talented instructors. Some include Deborah Anthony, founder of the Allegheny Ballet Company, Cherie Noble, Pennsylvania Ballet Company Principle dancer and Master Teacher, Jocelyn (Labriola) Hrzic, Director of Dance at Grier School, and Christina Pazcoguin, New York City Ballet Principle Dancer. Sydni also took Master classes under Valery Lantratov with the Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet and Kremlin Ballet general director of the Russian National Ballet Foundation, Trix of the Joffrey Ballet Company’s Hip-Hop Intensive, Dominique Battiste of the Jabbawockeez Dance Crew and SYTYCD Hip-Hop Intensive, and Allison Holker of SYTYCD Contemporary Intensive.

    Sydni danced competitively for 10 years winning various overall high scores, judges awards, and convention scholarships. She fell in love with the stage and knew it was something she would be involved with forever. She began student teaching at the competitive level at the age of 16.

    After high school, Sydni furthered her education at the Pennsylvania State University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management where she also was a member of the dance team. She quickly realized her love for management-based knowledge went hand in hand with her love for coaching competitive dancers. She learned her true passion was teaching and choreographing at the competitive level and she went on to win many choreography-based awards, as well as overall high scores of categories and overall competitions.

    After college Sydni moved to Philadelphia, PA where she worked as an HR Generalist at a law firm and continued to teach dance at a local studio. She also continued to train and participate in clinics for the 76ers dance team and the Eagles cheer team. Since then, Sydni has decided to come back to the area where it all began for her to share her love for dance with her students as well as the community. She has always known she would be an entrepreneur and feels blessed to be able to combine her love for business and dance into one. She is living her dream of instilling the art of dance in a high-quality studio environment and strives to continue to offer a safe place for children to learn the art of dance while also learning the importance of being themselves.

  • Anna DeRubeis - Ballet, Pointe & High Fitness

    Anna DeRubeis began dancing at the age of 6 and has studied Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Tap, and Hip-Hop. Anna received her B.F.A in Dance with a concentration in performance and choreography, and her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Slippery Rock University. During her time with Slippery Rock University, Anna worked closely with choreographers such as Jesse Factor, Francene Ott, Chitra Subramaniam, Lindsay Fisher Viatori, Jaya Mani, and Nora Ambrosio in repertory and guest artist pieces. Anna previously trained at summer intensive programs including Pittsburgh Youth Ballet, The Rock School for Dance, Ballet Met, Princeton Ballet School, and FORGE Summer Dance Intensive. She has also attended workshops including the American Dance Festival in Clevland, John Hopkins Peabody Institute, and Dance Masters of America. Anna has been trained under Lindsay Fisher Viatori, Jesse Factor, Jennifer Keller, Jennifer Byran, Connor Killian-Weigand, Jamale Graves, Brandon Porter and others. As a choreographer, Anna has created solo and ensemble works that have been presented at the collegiate level. As a dance instructor, Anna has had the pleasure of teaching ballet, pointe, contemporary, modern, jazz, and hip-hop classes to competitive and recreational dance students. Anna is also currently a Kindergarten teacher with Altoona Area School District. She is looking forward to sharing her passion for dance with her students at Legacy Dance Complex.

  • Erin Myers - Ballet & Pointe

    Erin Myers, is a Pennsylvania native who was trained in the art of classical ballet beginning at age 3. Mrs. Myers has studied all disciplines of dance with a concentration on ballet. She has studied with numerous ballet companies including Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, American Repertory Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Ballet Youth Ballet, Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, among several others. Mrs. Myers has been educating dancers for close to 25 years and has taught and choreographed at countless studios throughout her career. After obtaining her B.A. from Albright College, she worked as a Personal Trainer and fitness instructor locally and abroad. Erin trained under the guidance of a Physical Therapist in the unique form of functional-movement-based yoga where she received her teaching certification. Erin’s approach to dance education is based on anatomical alignment, proper body mechanics, classical technique, and the science behind injury prevention. When not teaching, Mrs. Myers works as an OR Nurse at UPMC Altoona. On a personal note, Erin is more than honored to be on the staff at LDC. She could not be more proud of her former student Sydni for taking on this new and exciting role!

  • Joci Hrzic - Jazz, Modern & Dance Conditioning

    Jocelyn Hrzic, has been the Director of Dance at the Grier School for over 20 years, which also includes the Grier Dance Summer Intensive Program. Jocelyn created the Grier Gala 15 years ago and enjoys presenting artists and companies such as Lar Lubavitch, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Koresh Dance Company, BareDance, Qui Danse, Giordano Company, Ate9, DanceWorks Chicago, Rennie Harris PureMovement, and many more. She is also the founder of Motion Dance Competition and Convention. Jocelyn danced professionally with Maxine Sherman Company, Theatre West Virginia, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Royal Caribbean. Mrs. Hrzic was also the Executive Director of August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble. Jocelyn was a dance major at Point Park University and on full scholarship at Steps on Broadway. Her choreography has been selected at reverb, Jazz Dance World Congress, Dancing Under the Stars Festival, and Steps Lab. She also has taught at Point Park International Summer Intensive, National High School Dance Festival, Rock West School, In-Motion Bermuda, Millennium and Maries School, Monterrey, Mexico, Dance Force and Flash Dance, Mexico City, Slippery Rock University, Whirlwind Dance intensive and Muhlenberg College. Currently, Mrs. Hrzic teaches for Andrea’s School of Dance and Legacy Dance Complex and is also a Guest Teacher at the Dance Company and Centre Dance. Jocelyn’s extensive work with world renown artists both professional and collegiate has given her the chance to help young dancers from all over achieve their goals of wanting to dance not only at college level, but professionally.

  • Cydnee Gittel - Ballet/Lyrical, Jazz & Dance Conditioning

    Cydnee is from Philadelphia, PA where she danced at Jasmin Yahne School of Dance, a national winning company, since the age of 3. She has trained in various styles that include, ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, and even African. Cydnee continued her dance education by attending Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as a dance major, where she was on their dance company and dance captain her senior year. Cydnee came to Altoona where she currently is a senior at Pennsylvania State University with a major in Communication and Science Disorders and teaches at Legacy Dance Complex

  • Sophia Sanchez - Assistant Instructor

    Sophia Sanchez has been trained under Sydni Piner through her competitive dance years and has been dancing since the age of four. Sophia has participated in various dance intensives including The Hollywood Summer Tour in Los Angeles and the London Spring Tour in England. She has also participated in many dance conventions and competitions. Her competition team, directed by Sydni Piner, has also won numerous adjudicated, overall, and studio awards. She graduated from Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School and is looking forward to sharing her personal style and knowledge with the students at Legacy Dance Complex.

  • Dina Afzal - Tap & Musical Theatre

    Dina Afzal is an instructor/choreographer with a knack for creative costuming, concepts and elaborate props. She is a self-published Children's Author and also currently works as a Senior Staff Accountant. She earned her B.S. in Accounting from Saint Francis College in 2000 after graduating as the Valedictorian of the Penn Cambria High School Class of 1996. Dina puts her heart and creative touch into all of her routines. She feels truly blessed to have passed down her love and passion for dance to her daughter, Gia Afzal, and to be able to continue to teach and encourage Gia as well as all of her students.

  • Joann Scott - Hip Hop & Tap

    JoAnn Scott is a Los Angeles native who has been dancing for 21 years and has trained in all styles. Her professional career started at the age of 8 years old. She was mentored by Debbie Allen and given many opportunities to perform on big stages such as performing at the Emmys, working with artists like Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, & Chris Brown, performing at the opening ceremony for the Special Olympics, going on a national tour, being featured in a Netflix documentary and more! JoAnn loves to share her passion with others and looks forward to spreading her knowledge of dance to the youth.
